Cyberspace is a domain created by humans and that is where lies its core vulnerability. What started as a noble effort to leverage creativity and intellect through global networking.

We are a nation of great innovators. The world's cyber engine runs on the intellect of young Indian minds. The recent initiatives in the field of cyber security undertaken by the government and some aflame entrepreneurs are most promising and shows way for others to follow. This reference handbook is a great work undertaken by NCSSS to empower all the stakeholders of National Security and protect the interests of our great nation in the cyber domain.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy.

Our increasing reliance on cyberspace and its rampant use for criminal activity can only be countered by adopting a holistic approach and concerted effort from all agencies that use the cyberspace. The Third Edition of the National Cyber Defence Reference Handbook is an effort towards advanced cyber protection methodologies and controlling procedures/tools to ensure that the cyberspace remains safe and conducive for overall growth and development.

Technology and communication have brought the world closer and made interaction between people much easier but it also brings along huge amount of problems. The rate at which electronics is growing, cybercrime is also growing. In the context of cyber security, we really need to understand whether things have already gone beyond redemption or are there are ways and means by which we can protect ourselves.

Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department Of Space,
Government Of India.

The advancement of technology has made society dependent on the internet for many critical services as well as social engagement. However, misuse of this technology for various disruptive as well as criminal activities has given rise to cyber-crimes. Today, the perpetrators of cybercrimes are sans borders and the victims could be any body, from common man to private enterprise to government organizations. Cyber-crime has also emerged as a National security threat. Hence, it is essential that coordinated efforts should be made for prevention of cyber-crimes and publishing of this reference handbook is one important step in that direction.

I am sure that this reference handbook will reach the right people in an effort to improve the cyber security both at the National as well as international level. I wish National Cyber Safety and Security Standards all the best in bringing out this handbook

Cyber Crime is the fastest growing threat to humanity. As the number of data networks, digital applications, as well as internet and mobile users are growing, so do the chances of cyber exploitation and cyber crimes. Even a small mistake in securing data or bad social networking can prove to be extremely dangerous.
